Why Make This Baked Pears Recipe
This recipe is such a great, super easy appetizer to impress your friends and family, or you can enjoy them as a healthy snack.
Customize this recipe easily with different types of cheese. I call for brie and/or blue cheese but you can really use any cheese you love. Feta or goat cheese make a great alternative.
These cheese and pears are very quick and fool-proof to make. Try my Balsamic Bruschetta for another great appetizer.
Ingredients Needed
Pears. This is the vehicle that holds all the goodness. Use any variety of pear you prefer. The pears can be hard still or just slightly soft.
Honey. This adds nice sweetness to cut the strong cheese flavor and bring everything all together. Be sure to use a high quality honey.
Cheese. I like to use brie cheese or blue cheese crumbles. You can use both or one or the other. Please also see the variations of cheeses you can substitute below in the recipe variation section.
All other ingredients and measurements can be found in the recipe card below.
Recipe & Ingredient Variations
Pears. Apples will also work, they may not get as soft as the pears but will be delicious.
Honey. You can also use maple syrup.
Cheese. There are a few great options you can substitute. Goat cheese or feta will work if you want a more mild flavor of cheese.
Almonds. You can use any nut of choice! Walnuts, pecans or pistachios will work great.
Steps To Make This Recipe
Step One. Preheat the oven to 350º. Cut pairs in half and scoop out the center carefully with a spoon or the large side of a melon baller (photo one). Add the pears to a parchment lined baking sheet (photo 2).
Step Two. With the centers facing up, add about 1 tsp of cheese to the center, enough to fill the hole. Sprinkle with fresh or dried thyme. Add nuts and pop into the oven.
Step Three. Bake for about 20 minutes, keep an eye on them, some varieties of nuts can brown more easy than others, you can pull them out early if needed and the nuts are getting too browned. Once the pears are finished and the cheese is melted a bit, pull the pears and drizzle them generously with honey. Enjoy!
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Recipe FAQs
Yes, use apples if you’d prefer. Apple will cook a little differently but will be delicious.
Yes, this recipe is great using plant based or dairy free cheese varieties and you can use maple syrup instead of honey.
Recipe Tips
Make Sure The Pears Are Firm; or just hardly softened (ripened) otherwise they can be too soft for scooping and baking.
Don’t Over Bake; Only bake long enough to melt the cheese, you don’t want the pear too soft and mushy.
Use Cheese You Enjoy! I know brie and blue cheese are strong in flavor, if you don’t like those cheeses you can use any soft cheese for the center that you DO enjoy.
