Why Make This Recipe

I can name about 10 reasons, but I will keep it short for you so you can hurry up and cook!

  • Easy to make. Hot Honey Wings only take a few steps to prepare.
  • Minimal ingredients.
  • Customize that heat level! Make it as mild or as spicy as you’d like.
  • Quick. They come together quickly.

Ingredient Notes

Small bowls and plates with ingredients in it.

All other ingredients and measurements can be found in the recipe card towards the bottom of this post.

  • Chicken Wings. Use whatever wings you like! The sauce can match with just about any chicken.
  • Seasonings. Salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, grlic & onion powder (measurements are in recipe card below)
  • Honey. You can use my Homemade Hot Honey, or regular honey that can be spiced up.
  • Butter. This is to help thin the saucy hot honey and make it spread easier.

Steps To Make Hot Honey Chicken Wings

Baking sheet with seasoned wings on it. Sauce pan with sauce in it,

Step One. Pat the wings completely dry with a paper towel. In a small bowl mix all the seasonings with a whisk. Cover both sides of the wings, rub the seasoning in well.

Step Two. Cook the wings!

  • For The Grill:
  • Preheat grill to Medium heat (about 375-400º) Add the seasoned wings to the grill. Grill for about 18-25 minutes turning the wings often all around. Cook until internal temp is 165º (Grills vary greatly please keep an eye on them).
  • For The Oven:
  • Preheat oven to 400 º. Add wings to a large baking sheet. Bake for 30 -45 minutes. or until internal temp reaches 165º F.
    • For The Air Fryer:  Add to the air fryer and cook on 375º for 18-20 minutes or until internal temp reaches 165º F.

Step Three. While the wings are cooking, mix up the hot honey sauce. Add butter, honey and hot sauce to a sauce pan. Let it simmer together lightly. Give it a taste and decide if you want more hot sauce for heat. You can also add cayenne pepper to the sauce to kick it up a notch.

Step Four. Once the wings are cooked through, place them in a big serving bowl. Pour all the hot honey sauce over them, toss them well! Serve immediately while warm.

Recipe Pairings

These weeks really hit the spot. They go great with so many fun side dishes like Greek Cucumber Salad, Spicy Cucumber Salad, Crispy Fries and more. You can also make them a whole meal eating as an appetizer for Spicy Chicken Burgers or Turkey Smash Burgers.

Hot Honey Chicken Wing Recipe Tips

  • Don’t overcook your chicken wings, they taste best when they are perfectly cooked and moist. Use a digital meat thermometer to ensure they 165º internally.
  • Taste the honey before you toss the wings, you may want more heat! Don’t add too much to start, taste as you go and remember it gets a little spicier as they sit.
  • Add a little extra tang by adding 1 tsp of apple cider vinegar to the honey butter sauce. It brightens the flavors a bit but it’s totally optional.
Can I use chicken things?

Yes! You can use this hot honey recipe/combination of chicken thighs or breasts if you prefer.

Are Hot Honey Chicken Wings Gluten Free?

Yes! These are totally gluten free.

    • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. I do not recommend freezing these
    • Nutritional information is a bit inflated due to the sauce, you most likely won’t be having all the sauce when serving as some does drip off the wings (unless you are licking out the bowls and plates)
