These easy air fryer zucchini fries are crispy on the outside, tender in the center, and loaded with a savory flavor throughout. This recipe is quick and easy to make in less than 15 minutes. Why Make This Air Fryer Zucchini Fries Recipe

You’ll love every bite of this air fryer zucchini recipe. It’s extra crispy on the outside while moist and cooked to perfection in the center. They are best on their own while warm and fresh, or you can dip them in your favorite sauce. I made them gluten-free, but you can also substitute the ingredients for regular flour and breadcrumbs.

Ingredient Notes

Ingredients for air fried zucchini fries.
  • Fresh zucchini. You can also use a yellow summer squash if needed. You will need about 2 medium sized zucchinis.
  • Bread crumbs. You can also use gluten free bread crumbs or panko bread crumbs in place.
  • Parmesan cheese. This helps to crisp up the fries and offers a great flavor.
  • Seasonings. You will need garlic powder, salt, paprika, and onion powder. You can also add Italian seasoning.
  • Cornstarch. To help crisp up the fries.
  • Eggs. For an egg wash and to get the coating to stick.
  • Dipping sauce. For the optional dipping sauce, use my homemade Lemon Honey Tahini. It also pairs well with my spicy honey mustard

Steps To Make Zucchini Fries

Steps to make air fried zucchini fries.

Step one. Get two medium-sized bowls out. Whisk egg wash in one. In the second bowl, add seasoning, and breadcrumbs and whisk together well.

Step two. Slice zucchini into “fries” of equal size so they cook evenly. See the above photo for size reference. I like to cut them in half and then cut each half into fourths or thinner. Sprinkle them with corn starch and mix well.

Step three. Line your air fryer basket with parchment to help prevent the batter from sticking. Dip one fry at a time into the egg wash, then into the breading for a crispy coating. Lay them close together but don’t overcrowd your air fryer. Once all the zucchini sticks are laid out flat on a single layer in the air fryer, spritz with oil, sprinkle with cheese.

Step four. Place zucchini fries in the air fryer at 350º for about 12-18 minutes. Cooking time may vary depending on the type of air fryer you have. If you have a small cylinder air fryer, you need to bake it in two batches.

Recipe Tips

Pat the zucchini dry. After slicing, remove excess moisture content in the zucchini by patting them dry with paper towels. This helps the coating adhere better and promotes crispiness.

Use a cooking spray. Lightly spray the zucchini fries with cooking oil before air frying for a super crispy texture.

Can I make these vegan?

Yes, you can skip the egg, do a milk wash with almond milk, and skip the cheese. But do note that they won’t be as crispy or breaded without the egg and parmesan.

Can I cook these zucchini fried in the oven?

Yes! If using the oven, bake at 375 for about 15 minutes or until they are browned, crispy and delicious.

What dipping sauces pair well with zucchini fries?

These fries go well with a lot of dipping sauces. Serve them with ranch, marinara sauce, garlic aioli, or a spicy sriracha mayo.

How to Store Leftover Zucchini Fries

These air fried zucchini fries disappear in no time at my house, but if you happen to have any leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container and refrigerate them for up to 3 days. You can also freeze them for a month. Reheat them using the air fryer or oven to get crispy and crunchy fries again.

Ingredients 

  • 2 zucchinis , medium in size
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 2 cup bread crumbs , *or gluten free bread crumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder
