Steps To Make This Recipe

Steps to make this recipe in a white baking dish.

Step One. Preheat oven to 400º. Prepare Brussel sprouts by peeling back any wilted yucky leaves and slices them in half lengthwise. Set aside.

Step Two. In the baking dish, pour the melted butter, cheese, seasonings in and mix with a fork. It should form a thick paste like texture. If you need to add more Parmesan you can to thicken the paste. The thicker it is the more crispy it is.

Step Three. Place brussel sprouts snug to each other into the cheesy paste, lightly press them down. Sprinkle a few pinches of Parmesan over the sprouts and bake for 20-25 minutes. Or until the cheese crust gets browned and bubbles, the sprouts will get lightly charred on the exterior leaves. I love them that way, but you can also gently peel those back before serving. Let them cool a bit, this will also help the cheese to stick together to the sprouts, sprinkle with chopped fresh chives. Serve and enjoy!

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Recipe FAQs

Are there any variations to the Parmesan crust for Brussels sprouts?

Yes, you can customize the Parmesan crust by adding herbs or spices to the breadcrumb mixture. Thyme, rosemary, or a hint of cayenne pepper can add an extra layer of flavor. Experimenting with different cheese blends or using seasoned breadcrumbs can also provide interesting variations.

Can I make Parmesan-crusted Brussels sprouts ahead of time?

This is best enjoyed while fresh out of the oven, but you can prepare components like getting the Brussels sliced and cleaned.

Recipe Tips

Trim and Halve Evenly: Ensure uniform cooking by trimming the stems and halving the Brussels sprouts evenly. This helps in achieving consistent tenderness and a well-balanced crust.

Experiment with Seasonings: Customize the Parmesan crust by experimenting with different seasonings. Add garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, rosemary, or a pinch of cayenne pepper to enhance the flavor profile.

Watch the Oven Temperature: Keep a close eye on the oven temperature to prevent the Parmesan crust from burning. If necessary, cover the dish with aluminum foil for part of the baking time to control browning. Please note, I like mine on the more brown/crispy side but they can turn burnt quickly so keep an eye!

Creative Dipping Sauces; These parmesan crusted brussel sprouts are great on their own, but they pair wonderfully with Pesto Dressing or Lemon Tahini Herb Dressing.

Recipe Pairings

These sprouts are great on their own as a snack or appetizer but they are wonderful with my Smash Burgers, Air Fried Turkey Burgers or a side to my Maple Chicken. You can dip these in Spicy Honey Mustard, Pesto Dressing or Tahini Herb Dressing.
