Why Make This Taco Pizza

This taco pizza is the best of both worlds! Tacos and pizza are my favorite meal, so combining the two is the way to go and change things up. You can make a traditional pizza on pizza dough OR you can make mini pizzas on tortillas. Both are equally addictive and my family enjoys both ways. The meat has a taco seasoning on it, giving it a nice spice and the taco sauce just ties it all together. You will love this combination. If you are looking for a more traditional pizza flavor try my Pizza Bowls!

Ingredients Needed

Counter with small bowls and ingredients.

Ground Beef. Ground beef, venison or ground turkey will work. I prefer lean ground beef as it pairs wonderfully with the taco sauce.

Seasoning. Chili powder, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, cumin.

Taco Sauce. Use any taco sauce of choice, I prefer red. This will be in the aisle with salsa at your local grocery store. You can also use enchilada sauce if you can’t find taco sauce.

Pizza Dough. Make your own, buy pre made dough OR grab some taco sized tortillas and make a tortilla taco pizza (both ways are excellent!)

Toppings For Taco Pizza

Black Olives. These are so tasty on the pizza, they really work well with the taco seasoning.

Tomatoes. Sliced tomatoes add color and flavor to the pizza.

Red Onions. This adds color and aromatics to the pizza.

Cheese. Use a blend of mozzarella and cheddar or you can buy the mexican blend cheese.

Lettuce. I go for shredded romaine lettuce.

Sour Cream. Optional but recommended! It really ties things together.

Cilantro. Fresh cilantro to really combine the taco flavors and add s deep green color.

Recipe Variations

Ground Beef. You can make this meal vegetarian or use ground turkey or ground venison in place of the beef.

Taco Sauce. If you can’t find taco sauce, use red enchilada sauce instead.

Toppings. Use any taco toppings of choice. Chopped bell peppers would also be good. The pizza can be finished with avocado or sour cream garnish.

Cheese. I like to use a blend of shredded mozzarella and cheddar, I find they both melt well and give the pizza a more taco vibe but feel free to use any cheese of choice.

How To Make This Recipe

A black skillet with ground beef in it and a cutting board with Ingredients to top the pizza with.

Step One. Preheat oven to 450º. In a small bowl, combine the seasonings and mix well. In a large skillet, heat beef over medium heat. Be sure to separate meat well, cook for about 5 minutes until everything is browned. Soak up excess fat with a paper towel (optional). Add the seasoning and cook for another minute or two, set aside.

Step Two. Prepare all the other pizza toppings, slice olives, tomatoes, lettuce and onions. Once oven has reached temperature, place dough on a pizza pan or taco sized tortillas on a pizza pan.

Cutting board with ingredients on it and a pizza.

Step Three. Layer the dough or tortillas with taco sauce, use the back of the spoon to spread the sauce evenly all over pizza. Next add cheese generously, followed by the ground beef. Lastly add the olives, tomatoes and red onions.

Step Four. Place the pizza pan in the oven and cook pizza dough for about 15-20 minutes or until the crust is browned and bubbling. The tortillas will cook in about 10 minutes, but keep a close eye on both as oven temps can vary.

Step Five. Let the pizza rest for a minute once it’s done cooking, top with shredded romaine, add more taco sauce if you’d like and other optional toppings like a drizzle of sour cream. Enjoy!

Recipe FAQ’s

What is the best store bought pizza dough?

The best store bought dough I have ever had is from Whole Foods in the takeaway lunch department. It’s perfectly made. You can also make your own dough, which I do often.

Which is better pizza dough or tortillas?

They are both really tasty. I prefer to use tortillas for a lighter meal, and I will make this recipe with pizza crust if I want a heavier more satisfying meal.

Recipe Pairings

This recipe is great on it’s own but you can also have my Avocado Corn Salad as a side or topping. Chili Onion Crunch would be tasty on this pizza as well.
