Why Make These Pizza Bowls
These pizza bowls are really easy to make and they are loaded with veggies and seasoning. They are low carb, however I love to pair them with Garlic Rolls or knots. They are customizable, use ground turkey, chicken or ground beef. You can make any flavor "pizza" of choice. I like to go for supreme flavor and a classic marinara. You will love these protein loaded bowls, and so will your friend and family.
Make these bowls a complete meal and serve them with my Lemon Honey Kale Salad or Lemon Kale Caesar.
Ingredients Needed
Ground Turkey. You can use ground beef or chicken as well. I prefer turkey, it's lean and clean since we use pepperoni and mozzarella, I try to cut the fat a little where I can for this recipe.
Marinara. Use any red sauce of choice. Pasta sauce or marinara will work.
Tomato Paste. This brings all the flavors together and helps to thicken the meat mixture a bit.
Pepperoni. I use regular, high quality pepperonis. You can use turkey pepperoni as well.
Veggies. I use mushrooms, bell peppers, jalapeños and onions for this recipe. The onion give the meat more moisture and flavor. You can use any pizza mix ins you prefer.
All other ingredients and measurements can be found in the recipe card below.
Recipe Variations
Pepperoni. This is optional! You can use turkey pepperoni to make it less fat.
Ground Turkey. Use ground chicken. ground venison or ground beef.
Marinara Sauce. Use spaghetti sauce or pasta sauce if needed.
Veggies. You can add black olives, red onions, chopped tomatoes, spinach and so on into the mix if desired. Don't forget to check out my Taco Pizza too for more pizza ideas.
Steps To Make This Recipe
Step One. Preheat oven to 450º. Chop mushrooms, jalapeño and bell peppers into bite sized pieces and set aside. Finely chop onion and mince garlic. In a large skillet, heat oil, add the ground meat. Cook for about 5 minutes, soak up any leftover grease or liquid with a paper towel. Add in seasonings, onion and garlic.
Step Two. Once the onion starts to sweat, add in chopped mushrooms and peppers. Add seasonings and tomato paste. Mix well. Let the seasoning and tomato paste brown just a bit. Add in the marinara sauce.
Step Three. Once the marinara sauce begins to simmer a bit, continue to stir for another minute. Add equal amounts of the meat sauce mixture to oven safe bowls (20-25 oz bowls). If you don't have oven safe bowls, no worries use microwave safe bowls.
Step Four. Cover the meat mixture with Mozzarella and top with pepperonis. Put bowls on a caking sheet and bake for about 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted, browned and bubbling. Or, you can cover them and pop them into the microwave for 1 minute or more until the cheese is melted.
Step Five. Let the pizza bowls cool for a minute or two and serve in the bowls, once they are cooled and enjoy.
Leftovers can be covered with plastic wrap and kept in the fridge for up to 5 days. To reheat just warm them up in the microwave.

Kate
These are great! I made mine without the turkey and used extra veggies and lots if cheese!
Bailey

I would like to know what marinara sauce you’re using and what % of Turkey you’re using… when I input this recipe into MFP it tells me 429 cal per serving with 25g Fat….
Bailey
Hi Kate, I use 90/10 Turkey (lean) and then I usually use a low sugar marinara but any will work. All calories vary on different apps and with so many different brands/calories per brand on the market so I am not quite sure what to tell you... everything I plug into my app is a "guesstimate" to how it calculates.... I have added this into MFP and I am still getting very close to the same calories. Are you splitting the recipe into 4 serving?
Lo
This was FABULOUS!!
Heidu
Can I make in like a baking dish/large cake pan?
Bailey
You could make it in a baking dish, about a 8x8 - 9x9 dish or a large cast iron skillet. Just add all the ingredients into the one dish vs the single serve dishes. Xoxo.
Sarah
Could I make this in a 9 x13 dish?
Bailey
Hi Sarah! 9x13 is a big large, if you have anything a bit smaller that would be best, even a cast iron or oven safe skillet would be great. Otherwise, yes this will work, it just won't look like the photos 🙂 Enjoy!
