This 30-Minute Feta Cheese Chicken Bake has juicy chicken, roasted vegetables, and pasta tossed in a creamy feta sauce that forms right in the baking dish. Baking the block of feta alongside the chicken, tomatoes, garlic, and roasted red peppers softens the cheese while the tomatoes release their juices, so everything can be stirred together in a rich, tangy sauce at the end. The result is creamy and filling, but still feels like an easy weeknight chicken dinner rather than a heavy pasta bake.

More Than Just Baked Feta Pasta
I love that this dish feels like a full dinner, not just pasta tossed with baked feta. Adding chicken, zucchini, roasted red peppers, and spinach gives you plenty of hearty ingredients in the same dish, but it still has all that creamy, comforting quality that makes baked feta pasta so good.
The combination of flavors is so good. Feta is salty and tangy, while the roasted tomatoes and red peppers bring a little sweetness and the red pepper flakes keep the sauce from tasting too rich. I also prefer the zucchini cut into larger pieces so there’s still some texture after everything bakes.
It ends up somewhere between a creamy chicken pasta and a baked feta pasta, both saucy and filling, but with more texture and color than either one on its own.
Ingredients Worth Talking About

- Feta cheese: Use a block rather than pre-crumbled feta. I prefer feta packed in brine for the creamiest texture and strongest flavor, but a vacuum-packed block will still work.
- Reserved pasta water: Start with about ¼ cup and add more only as needed. It helps the softened feta turn into a smooth sauce that clings to the pasta.
- Heavy cream (optional): If you want to make this dish without pasta, just use a little heavy cream in place of the pasta water to help coat everything in the creamy cheese sauce.
How To Make Feta Chicken Bake
Ready to bake? Let me walk you through the recipe. For your convenience, there is a full ingredient list and detailed instructions in the printable recipe card below.

For the Creamiest Sauce and Texture
- Keep the zucchini pieces on the larger side. This makes the biggest texture difference. Small pieces tend to soften too much in the oven.
- Don’t add all of the pasta water at once. Start with ¼ cup. You may be surprised by how much liquid is already in the baking dish from the tomatoes and chicken.
- For an extra-rich sauce, add a splash of cream. I prefer pasta water when serving this fresh because you can taste the feta better, but heavy cream makes the sauce noticeably richer.
- Add cream when reheating leftovers. This is my favorite way to bring the sauce back to life the next day. Add a splash before reheating and stir well once warm.

Creamy Feta Cheese Chicken Bake with Pasta and Spinach (35 Minutes)
Equipment
- 10 × 14 baking dish or similar in size
Ingredients
- 8 oz pasta , penne or similar shape
- 1 cup reserved pasta water, from above
- 1 lb. boneless skinless chicken breast, cubed
- 1 medium zucchini, diced
- 1 cup roasted red peppers, diced
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- ½ tsp each salt & pepper, more to taste as needed
- 1 tsp red pepper flakes, more or less as desired
- 3 cups baby spinach
- 8 oz. block of feta cheese, in brine if possible
- ½ bunch fresh parsley or basil, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. Lightly grease a 10×14 -inch baking dish.
- Prepare the chicken and vegetables. Add the cubed chicken, diced zucchini, roasted red peppers, cherry tomatoes, and minced garlic to the baking dish. Drizzle with olive oil and season with oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Toss everything together until evenly coated.
- Add the feta. Place the block of feta in the center of the baking dish, nestling it between the chicken and vegetables. Drizzle the feta with a little additional olive oil, if desired.
- Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F, the tomatoes begin to burst, and the feta is soft and creamy.
- Cook the pasta. While the chicken bakes, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
- Make the creamy feta sauce. Remove the baking dish from the oven. Stir the softened feta into the roasted vegetables and cooking juices until a creamy sauce forms. Add the fresh spinach and stir until wilted. If needed, return the dish to the oven for 2–3 minutes to help soften the spinach.
- Combine and serve. Add the cooked pasta and toss everything together, gradually adding reserved pasta water until the sauce reaches your desired consistency. If you are using heavy cream, feel free to add it now. Garnish with fresh parsley and additional red pepper flakes, if desired. Serve warm!
Notes
- Pasta water: Start with 1/4 cup and add more only as needed. The chicken and tomatoes release plenty of liquid while baking, so you may not need the full cup.
- For a richer sauce: You can use heavy cream instead of pasta water, or add a small splash at the end if you want the sauce extra creamy.
- Reheating: I found that a splash of heavy cream makes the sauce noticeably creamier when reheating, since the feta sauce thickens once chilled.
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
