Why Make Peanut Butter Cheerio Bars

These treats are really tasty, they have great crunch but are also soft and melt in your mouth. They have the perfect sweetness and nutty peanut butter flavor in every bite. They are husband approved, I pack them for his lunch quite often and he’s a huge fan! These bars are great for a snack or a healthier dessert option. They are made with real food ingredients, no processed sugars since we use honey to sweeten them up and you can add in extras to customize them if you’d like! I enjoy M&M’s or peanuts mixed in.

Ingredients Needed

Ingredients need to make recipe in mixing bowls.

Cheerios. I love to use honey nut, plain (If you want to cut back on sugar) or peanut butter flavored cheerios. You can of course use a store brand name in place of the cheerio brand!

Peanut Butter. Creamy is my favorite for this recipe. I typically use a natural peanut because the ingredients are cleaner and it spreads easier.

Honey. Any honey will do, this is used to sweeten the bars and to hold everything together. I tried doing this with maple syrup and it did not work or hold together well.

Salt. Just a little sprinkle of salt, mainly if your peanut butter is unsalted.

Avocado Oil. This is really only to help keep the peanut butter sticking to the sauce pot when you combine the ingredients.

Recipe Variations

Cheerios. Use plain, honey nut, peanut butter or any other flavor. You can also use fruity pebbles, cocoa puffs and more.

Avocado Oil. Use olive oil or coconut oil instead if needed.

Honey. I only suggest honey as it’s much sticker than maple syrup. If you use maple syrup, it will be similar to a puppy chow vs cereal bars.

Steps To Make

Step One. Add honey, oil and peanut butter to a medium size sauce pan. Stir the mixture over low heat. Once warm, and just beginning to bubble remove from heat.

Step Two. Pour in cheerios and mix well with a spatula. In a parchment lined 7×7 or similar size dish, press the cereal mix down firmly into the dish. The smaller the dish the thicker the bars, if it’s a bigger dish they will just be slightly thinner. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least one hour.

Step Three. Once they are chilled and sticking together firmly, pop them out of the dish and slice into bars. Enjoy!

Tips & FAQ’s

Can I use another cereal?

Yes! You can use almost any small cereal like fruity pebbles, coco puffs, captain crunch and more, get creative.

Can these be made vegan?

Unfortunately, maple syrup doesn’t work well, it’s not sticky like honey and the bars don’t stay together.

What can I add to these bars?

Mini chocolate chips, chopped peanuts or chipped m&ms are all fun to mix in with the cereal as well!
