Why Make This Cajun Spicy Chicken Wrap
Okay, as you know I am a big spice girl, I love bold flavors that have a little bite. These wraps are full of that, you can customize the level of heat, I have tips for that. These wraps have an easy sauce to go with them and they are crave worthy. Add your favorite veggies to the wrap, choose any type of wrap (or lettuce wrap) for these. They are the perfect meal to prep for lunch or dinners for the week.
Ingredients Needed To Make Spicy Chicken Wraps
- Chicken Breasts. Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are my favorite, you can also use chicken thighs, but I prefer the texture of breasts.
- Seasoning. The main star of the recipe! Cayenne pepper, black pepper, white pepper, salt, paprika, garlic, oregano.
- Olive Oil. Neutral in flavor oil is best.
- Lemon Juice. This helps to keep the chicken moist and tenderize it.
- Tortillas or Wraps. I go for the burrito size so I can properly fold them.
- Plain Greek Yogurt. This is the base of the sauce, it’s high in protein and adds a great tang to the mix.
- Sriracha. This is a hot chili sauce, you can use any similar brand. This adds the heat/flavor to the greek yogurt.
- Red Onion. Chopped red onion adds a peppery flavor and a bust of color.
- Tomatoes. Chopped tomatoes to help add some coolness to the wraps.
- Cilantro. Fresh cilantro for garnish and for the sauce.
Recipe Variations
Chicken. You can use chicken thighs or shrimp instead. If using shrimp, only cook for 7-10 minutes.
Greek Yogurt. You can use sour cream or mayo in place of greek yogurt.
Sriracha. Use any hot sauce of choice in place of sriracha.
Tortillas. I use flour tortillas they are the most flexible for folding. You can use any wrap of choice or even make this keto/carb friendly by using lettuce wraps.
How To Make This Recipe
Step One. Cut the chicken breasts into small bite sized pieces. In a big bowl add the cubed pieces of chicken. Add the lemon juice, oil and all the seasonings. Mix the chicken up well so its all evenly coated.
Step Two. You can cook the chicken in the oven or on the stove in a large fry pan. Both methods are great. If cooking in the oven, preheat the oven to 375, cook for about 18 minutes or until it’s fully cooked through. If cooking on the stove, add to a heated skilled and cook on medium heave for about 14-18 minutes.
Step Three. While the chicken is cooking or baking, chop your veggies and mix up the sauce ingredients (yogurt, sriracha, cilantro, a pinch of salt and pepper). I like to also heat my wraps or tortillas a bit before making them.
Step Four. Assemble your warmed wrap or tortilla. Add chicken, lettuce, veggies and sauce, fold the bottom up and then wrap the sides together. Enjoy! Store leftovers in an airtight container keep in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze them in plastic wrap for up to 2 months (just leave off the romaine.)
Recipe FAQ’s
This cajun chicken wrap has a good kick to it, however you can easily lesson the heat level by cutting back on the cayenne pepper and sriracha.
Yes, use any wrap of choice, I find that flour tortillas are the most forgiving and playable.
Use this cajun mix on shrimp, steak and any other chicken recipe of choice.
Recipe Pairings
This spicy chicken wrap is great on it’s own and very filling however I love to serve my Crispy Fries with it, Garlic Rolls or my Kale And Beet Salad on the side.
Storage Tips
Store the leftovers in an airtight container. If the wraps are already assembled, they will last in the fridge up to 3 or 4 days. Otherwise they can last a bit longer if they are not assembled. You can also leave the lettuce off the wraps and freeze them in plastic wrap or a bag for up to three months. They are great reheated in the air fryer, or on the stove top.
