Roasted Sesame Dressing is full of ginger, garlic and toasted sesame seeds. It’s creamy and makes for a beautifully flavored dressing or dip. You will love this asian inspired saucy dressing. It has texture and unmatched flavors.
Why Make Roasted Sesame Dressing
This is inspired by the Kewpie “Deep Roasted Sesame” dressing at Costco. I had it once and then it was gone for months (I still haven’t seen it there, so I decided to make my own!) It’s quite similar and has less ingredients to it.
- Easy. This recipe takes minimal effort.
- Versatile. You can dress Simple Green Salads with it or dunk Salad Rolls in it.
- Quick. Have this ready in about 10 minutes!
Ingredient Notes
All other ingredients and measurements can be found in the recipe card towards the bottom of this post.
- White Sesame Seeds. This is the base of the dressing. They are lightly toasted and offer tons of deep flavor.
- Sesame Oil. This enhances the sesame flavor and helps it spread a bit.
- Rice Vinegar. My favorite vinegar! This adds some sweetness and zing to the dressing.
- Soy Sauce. You can also use coconut aminos or tamari for a gluten free option.
- Brown Sugar. This adds sweetness. You can also use white sugar or maple syrup.
- Fresh Garlic & Ginger.
- Kewpie Mayo. This is a Japanese Mayo, it has an extra tanginess to it. You can use regular mayo as well.
- Red Pepper Flakes. For a little heat!
Steps To Make This Recipe
Step One. Add the white sesame seeds to a small skillet over medium heat. Lightly toast them for 3-5 minutes until they are a golden color and fragrant. Be sure to stir them around often.
Step Two. Grind up the sesame seeds! Use a small food processor to blitz them, or a mortar and grind them coarsely.
Step Three. In a jar with a lid, add the toasted seeds, and all other ingredients. Shake well. Give it a taste, add more brown sugar or soy sauce if desired. Enjoy! Refrigerate until ready to use.
Recipe Pairings
This dressing is so versatile. It pairs great with salads like, Kale Salad, Egg Rolls, Dumplings, Bao Buns and more!
Recipe Tips
- Don’t burn the sesame seeds. Keep a close eye on them and don’t have the heat up too high, they get bitter if they burn.
- Taste the dressing as you go! You may want to have it a little sweet, add more brown sugar if desired.
- Keep the dressing refrigerated. It should last up to a week in the refrigerator in a sealed jar.
Yes! Just be sure to use tamari or coconut aminos in place of the soy sauce.
