Why Make Egg In A Hole Bagel

  • Easy to make. This recipe comes together in 15-20 minutes and it is fool proof! So easy to whip up.
  • It’s fun to eat, the family will love this recipe. It’s a great change up from the day-day breakfast or brunch.
  • Customize it! I use Everything Bagels, however if you prefer asiago cheese or sun-dried tomato bagels, you can certainly use them in place. You can also customize your toppings. If you aren’t a big fan of feta, use cheddar or goat cheese! If you don’t like tomatoes, I suggest artichokes. This recipe is food-proof and you can’t go wrong.

Ingredient Notes

Ingredients needed to make the recipe.

Bagels. Any type will work. I prefer Everything bagels.

Eggs. You will need an eg for each half of the bagel.

Cherry Tomatoes. These add a great color and a little nutritional value.

Jalapeños. This is optional! Mushrooms or diced peppers will also work.

Cheese. Use any cheese of choice! Feta, goat cheese, cheddar and so on

Fresh Herbs. For garnish. I use parsley, basil or cilantro.

How To Make This Recipe

Baking sheet with bagels on it.

Step 1. Use a sharp serrated knife to evenly cut your bagels. You will want them to cook up evenly so it’s important to make sure they are cut in half perfectly.

Step 2. Preheat oven to 375º. Spray a baking sheet with oil or lay parchment paper down. Line bagels on pan evenly inside face down.

Step 3. Carefully break egg open and gently place in the center of the bagel. You may separate the yolk and discard the white if they aren’t fitting properly, this will help with any spill over. It will work either way however, just be gentle and patient with getting the egg to lay flat in the bagel hole. Gently top the bagels with cheese, jalapeño or other veggies, sliced tomatoes and a pinch of salt and pepper. Bake for 8 minutes for a runny egg, 10 -12minutes for a jammy egg.

Egg In A Hole Bagel Pairings

These are filling breakfast bagels but they pair great with a sweet treat brunch item like Nutella Puff Pastries, Apple Pastries or Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls.

Recipe Tips

  • Add extra seasoning! Add Everything seasoning to really kick up the flavor and make the bottoms of the bagels just as good as the seasoned tops.
  • Keep a close eye on the bagels white baking. They go from runny to overcooked quite quick so keep a good eye on them, tap with your finger gently to check the cook.
