Why Make These Hamburger Bowls
Burger bowls are such a great change up from your typically burger. Eating your burger in a bowl means way more room for toppings. You can customize your toppings however you like. This burger bowl has a dijonnaise drizzle that brings all the flavors together beautifully.
If you aren't a big beef eater and want to make these hamburger bowls a bit healthier, you can use ground turkey or grown chicken as the base for this easy meal. This meal can be meal prepped and you can switch up the toppings every night to make it taste like new.
Ingredients Needed To Make Burger Bowls
- Ground Beef. High quality 90/10 or 80/20 will work great. If you want to make this recipe a little healthier, use ground turkey or ground chicken instead.
- Seasoning. Seasoning is what makes this dish so flavorful (plus a few other things of course). You will need garlic, onion powder, dried thyme, salt, pepper.
- Worcestershire Sauce. This is a fermented liquid condiment invented in the city of Worcester in Worcestershire, England. It's a malty, vinegar style condiment that tastes great with beef.
- Onions. I use yellow onions. These will be sautéed, almost caramelized in balsamic vinegar. They add a great depth of flavor to this bowl.
- Balsamic Vinegar. This will be used with olive oil to sauté and caramelize the onions.
- Fries. This is optional but I love my burger bowls with fries. You can use frozen french fries or use my Crispy Homemade Fries Recipe.
- Mayo. I always go for the full fat mayo for this one. Don't worry we will mix if with Dijon Mustard.
- Dijon Mustard. I LOVE dijon mustard. It has a great bite to it and it's the base of the easy dijonnaise.
- Lettuce. I use lettuce as the base of this recipe and serve all the Ingredients over the lettuce. It's the perfect crunch.
Optional Toppings For Hamburger Bowls
Tomatoes. Diced cherry tomatoes are perfect for toppings here.
Pickles. I love the sweet and spicy pickles the best but dill pickles will also work.
Bacon. I can't have a burger without bacon so I love to add a little bacon to these bowls for some salty crunch.
Cheese. Shredded cheddar, feta, goat cheese, blue cheese, whatever you love on your cheeseburgers will go great with this cheeseburger bowl.
Ketchup. A little drizzle of ketchup on this bowl is great.
Steps To Make This Recipe
Step One. Gather all your ingredients. Chop up your toppings (tomatoes, pickles, bacon and set them to the side). If you are using fries, bake them now according to the package or follow my Homemade Crispy Fries Recipe.
Step Two. Slice the onion. In a medium sized pan, add olive oil and heat on medium/high heat. Ad the onions and season with a pinch of salt/pepper. Sauté or 8 minutes or until browned and darkened in color. Then add in the balsamic vinegar, sauté for another 5 minutes. Set onions aside.
Step Three. Wipe the onion pan with a paper towel, add the ground beef to the pan on medium heat. Season the beef with thyme, salt, pepper, garlic, onion. Continue to cook until beef is browned. Soak up the excess grease with a paper towel. Once the grease is soaked up, add in the Worcestershire Sauce.
Step Four. Once beef is fully cooked, remove from heat and quickly make the dijonnaise sauce below.
Step Five. In a small bowl, add mayo, dijon, a pinch of salt pepper and whisk together. To thin the sauce a little, add 1 tsp of water to the mix until desired consistency.
Step Six. In a bowl, add lettuce, hamburger meat, toppings (pickles, onions, tomatoes, cheese, fries) and drizzle dijonnaise over the bowl.
