It’s a simple, budget-friendly comfort food made in one pan . Serve it as is or add it to some long grain rice.

This is a twist on the cajun dirty rice, it has spice and smoky flavors with some crunchy veggies all mixed in. It’s a great one-pan meal which results in a quick clean up and I know the family will be asking for seconds.

- Ground Beef. This is the main protein option for this dish. You can also add sausage to this dish for an even bigger kick.
- Crunchy Veggies. I add celery, red bell pepper, onions and jalapeños.
- Garlic. This is a must for the dish!
- Beef Broth. Adding lots of flavor to the cabbage and meat. It elevates the meal and steams the cabbage well.
- Seasonings. This dish has a heavy hand of seasonings to it to give it that cajun “dirty rice” flavor.
- Green Cabbage. A main ingredient adding crunch and holding the yummy flavors.

Step 1. Remove any damaged outer cabbage leaves and cut the cabbage into 1-inch-thick steaks or large wedges, keeping the core intact so they hold together a bit. Set this aside.
Step 2. In a large sauté pan brown the ground beef. Add the onion, jalapeño, celery and bell peppers, garlic on top and mix together. Next, add the seasoning and sauté until meat it cooked through.
Step 3. Next, add the roughly chopped cabbage, pour the broth over the top and cover the pan.
Step 4. Cook down until the cabbage is softened to your liking, about 10 -15 minutes. Serve and enjoy as is or over rice.
Want To Make It More Filling?
Add Extra Meat. You can add ground sausage or sliced andouille sausage to the mix for a meatier dinner.
Add a Grain. Serve this over rice. Brown or white rice would be great. Cauliflower rice would be another fun way to serve this dish.
Add Veggies. Diced broccoli, carrots or zuchinni all make for a great veggie add in.
