My creamy Chicken Cobbler recipe is a healthier version of the viral recipe on TikTok! It’s an easy casserole dish made with shredded chicken, lots of veggies, and topped with a buttery biscuit topping. The ultimate cozy, comfort food to warm you up on a chilly night!
Why Make Chicken Cobbler Casserole
The viral TikTok chicken cobbler recipe has been making waves, and for good reason! It’s melt-in-your-mouth delicious and so easy to make. I love to make things healthier, so my version has fewer calories and is packed with veggies but still has a lot of flavor—a lot like my healthy chicken pot pie recipe!
- Dump and bake dinner. A one-pan recipe that’s perfect for busy nights when you still want something indulgent!
- Family favorite. Lots of delicious, savory flavors that even kids will finish their plates!
- Perfect use of leftover chicken!
Ingredient Notes
All other ingredients and measurements can be found in the recipe card towards the bottom of this post.
- Shredded chicken. Use leftover rotisserie chicken, canned chicken, or shred cooked boneless, skinless chicken breasts.
- Chicken broth. Or use vegetable broth.
- Cream of chicken. Cream of mushroom will also work or make your own chicken stock at home.
- Milk. You can use whole milk, 2% milk, or any unsweetened plant-based milk.
- Butter. Use a high-quality salted butter.
- Shredded cheese. Shredded cheddar cheese or Pepperjack are great options.
- Frozen vegetables. I used a bag of frozen vegetables with carrots, peas, and corn.
- Biscuit mixture. I recommend using Bisquick biscuit mix.
- Seasonings. I seasoned the cobbler with old bay seasoning and garlic powder.
Steps To Make This Chicken Cobbler
Step One. Layer the shredded chicken evenly on top of the melted butter. Add the thawed veggies evenly over the chicken layer so they don’t need to be cooked. Add them thawed or frozen.
Step Two. In a separate bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup and chicken broth. Pour this mixture over the chicken and veggies. In that same bowl or a new one, mix together the milk and biscuit mix along with old bay seasonings and shredded cheese until combined well.
Step Three. Pour the mixed biscuit mix layer as evenly as possible on top of the chicken and veggies, don’t mix it! Bake for about 35 to 45 minutes on 400º until everything is bubbling on the sides and the top of the biscuit is browned.
What to Serve with Cobbler
This homemade chicken casserole is a hearty meal on its own! Some of my favorite sides to serve it with are charred broccoli, parmesan crusted potatoes, or a simple green salad.
Recipe Tips
- Resist the urge to stir at any stage. This helps to keep the layers intact and ensures the biscuits bake properly on top while the filling stays creamy.
- Let the cobbler rest for around 8 to 10 minutes after baking to let the filling set.
- If you want to skip the cream of chicken, you can! It will still be tasty.
Recipe FAQs
Yes, you can assemble the casserole dish a few hours ahead and refrigerate it before baking. But add the biscuit topping just before baking for the best texture.
You can use homemade biscuit dough or even puff pastry as a topping. For a quicker option, store-bought refrigerated biscuit dough also works.

- In that same bowl or a new one, whisk together the biscuit mix with the milk, old bay seasonings, shredded cheese until combined well.

- Allow the cobbler to rest for about 8-10 minutes. This will help solidify everything so it doesn’t fall apart. Feel free to garnish with fresh chopped parsley for color.

- Let the cobbler rest for around 8 to 10 minutes after baking to let the filling set.

Made it for dinner last night and raves all-around!
Can I use reduced fat bisquick and reduced fat cream of chicken soup in this recipe?
Yes absolutely! You could also make the recipe without the cream of chicken. It will just not be as creamy and luxurious but really great! Xoxo
Biscuit mix not bisques like Jiffy
1 box of bisquick mix???
1 box of BISCUIT mix, any brand will work – not to be confused with the brand and large box of pancake mix
Is this a small box of biscuit mix? A measurement would be extremely helpful.
pre-made biscuit mix is typically around 7-8oz a box depending on the brand. I have updated the recipe to reflect that so there is no confusion! Thanks so much! enjoy.
Can I use a box of corn bread mix in place of the biscuit mix?
Hi Judy! THis is a GREAT question, I have not tried cornbread mix on this particular recipe but I have a few others that are similar to this with a cornbread topping. I am thinking it would work wonderfully. I would maybe be prepared to need two boxes of cornbread mix (but start with one mixed for topping first to be sure it covers most of the casserole). Let me know if you try it and what you think. Also please keep a close eye on it since timing may change a bit for cornbread.
xoxo – Enjoy!
