Hot Honey Chicken Sandwiches

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2-3 large chicken breasts, butterflied
  • 1.5 cup all purpose flour or gluten free flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp red pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp cooking oil more as needed if pan frying.
  • cup hot honey *more as needed

Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich Toppings

Instructions

  •  In a shallow bowl, mix the seasonings with the ap flour. Whisk well, set aside. 
  • In another shallow bowl whisk the eggs together. Set aside.
  • Slice the chicken breasts in half (as in butterfly the breasts) this makes the sandwich more enjoyable to bite through and cook quicker. 
  • Pat the butterflied breasts dry with a paper towel. Dredge the chicken in the egg wash and then into the all purpose seasoned flour. Be sure the chicken is fully coated. Add it to a baking sheet and continue until all breasts are coated. 
  • Time to bake or pan fry!
    For the oven; preheat the oven to 375º. Spray the battered chicken with cooking oil. bake the chicken for 14-16 minutes. Chicken should be 165º internally. 
    Air Fryer; Spray the battered chicken with cooking oil. Bake on 375º for 12-14 minutes. Chicken should be 165º internally. 
    Skillet. Heat 1/4 cup of oil in a deep skillet. Once the oil is hot, add the chicken breasts and cook for about 6 minutes on each side. Chicken should be 165º internally. 
  • Once the crispy chicken is finished cooking, generously drizzle hot honey all over the chicken on both sides. Add to a toasted bun with mayonnaise, pickles onions or any toppings of choice. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Make your own hot honey using my hot honey recipe. It's way more affordable and you can customize the level of heat.
  • Don't overcook the chicken! It's always best to have a digital meat thermometer. This will help keep the chicken nice and juicy. 
  • For the ultimate crispiness, eat these sandwiches right away.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can freeze these for up to 2 months.
