Turkey Sausage

Enjoy this delicious homemade turkey sausage recipe that's healthy and perfect for breakfast! This juicy turkey breakfast sausage cooks in minutes for a quick and easy meal.
Course: Breakfast
Cuisine: American
Diet: Gluten Free

Equipment

  • 1 large skillet

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • ½ tsp tsp ground sage
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp pepper or red pepper flakes
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar *use less if desired but it adds a nice "maple" flavor"

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, seasonings and brown sugar. Mix well with a spatula or with your hands.
  • Heat the oil in a large skillet on medium/high heat. Add the mixed turkey sausage to the skillet. Chop the meat up roughly with a spatula OR you can make small sausage patties and cook them in the pan.
  • Continue to cook until turkey sausage is cooked throughout (165º internally). Add it to egg scrambles, omelettes, breakfast casseroles, sandwiches and more.

Notes

    • Don't overcook. Ground turkey can dry out quickly so avoid overcooking it. Cook the sausage just until it's no longer pink, but still making sure it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
    • Brown Sugar gives off a nice maple flavor to the turkey sausage, I like to use a full Tablespoon but if you are cautious feel free to use less! I promise it's so good.
    • Make Turkey Patties if desired. Just form 1/4 cup patties and cook in a skillet.
    • Pair it with veggies. Serve it with bell peppers, onions, spinach, and shredded cheese for a complete breakfast.
