The Easiest Homemade Tomato Sauce

A jar of pasta sauce is around $3-$5 depending on what brand you get. Thats not too pricy however a lot of the sauces have loads of sodium and sugar in them, not to mention other ingredients you just really don’t need for good pasta sauce.

I typically grow my own tomatoes in the summer (if we have a good season) I end up making big batches of this sauce and keeping it in the freezer. I usually make a batch of sauce to feed 4 at once but this recipe is smaller and feeds 2 to 3 with pasta. This is hands down the easiest sauce recipe I have ever made. I have several variations of it but for now here’s the basic sauce.

  • 3 large vine ripe tomatoes cut into cubes

  • 1 tbs of crushed oregano

  • 1-2 garlic cloves minced

  • dash of salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 quarter of a chopped white onion

  • 1/2 of a can of organic tomato paste (use the rest to make another batch and freeze or spread it on pizza!)

  • Toss all the above ingredients except for the tomato paste into a sauce pan

  • Once everything is boiled down, add the tomato paste and stir in well to thicken the sauce

  • taste as you go you may want a little ore salt if the sauce is a little bitter

  • I also sometimes like to add chipotle seasoning into the sauce to give it more depth in flavor

  • Serve over any pasta you like
