Who here has has puppy chow?! You know the chocolaty sugary chex mix we grew up on as kids? Well… this recipe is nothing like that. As in, its a lot healthier and doesn’t have sugary chocolate in it. I have been serving this when I have guests over and they usually request to take a bag home with them because it’s just the right amount of sweetness.
Ingredients:
-
6 Tbs of butter ( I used plant based butter)
-
1/4 C of coconut sugar
-
2 tbs maple syrup or high quality honey
-
2 tsp cinnamon
-
sprinkle of salt
-
4 C of “chex” mix like cereal ( corn, rice or mixed! They all end up similar in color with the aminos)
-
2 C of regular cheerios (any brand)
-
1 C of roasted peanuts (I use regular cheerios and peanuts vs honey roasted to avoid unnecessary sugar and a lot of those items have msg in them)
Instructions:
-
Melt butter and whip all chunks out with a fork
-
Add in sugar and cinnamon
-
Add in cereal mixture and nuts and mix together well with hands
-
Add to a greased baking dish and cook on 300 for 15 minutes stirring often, cereal will harden once its cooled so try not to over cook!
-
once its out of the oven and cooled a bit, sprinkle with sea salt and a touch of powdered sugar (optional)
